JOB DESCRIPTION
As General Counsel:
- Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, overseeing all legal matters within the organization.
- The organization has entities in Switzerland, the USA, the UK, and the Philippines, as well as collaborative partners in dozens of countries.
- Provide strategic legal advice to management on a broad range of issues.
- Manage legal matters including contract administration, intellectual property rights, corporate governance, and employment law.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with all applicable non-profit and charity laws and regulations.
- Draft, negotiate, and oversee the implementation of agreements and contracts.
- Coordinate and manage any litigation or legal disputes.
- Proactively protect the organization from potential legal risks.
As Gift Planning Attorney:
Provide detailed and accurate gift, tax, estate, and charitable planning information to prospective donors, their advisors, and charity staff.
- Seek out and develop new donor relationships in addition to serving relationships developed by other executives.
- Deliver services with high professionalism, technical accuracy, and dedication to the mission and charitable goals of donors while adhering to the organization’s policies, processes, and structure.
JOB QUALIFICATION
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school is required. US or European is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience as a lawyer in a business or non-profit environment is required.
- Current or past bar qualified. Membership with International Bar Association is desirable.
- Previous experience serving in a similar role as a General Counsel is desirable.
- Extensive experience drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts and agreements.
- Demonstrated experience in managing litigation or dispute resolution.
- Proven track record of effectively handling complex legal projects and issues.
- Proven experience in creating technical illustrations, proposals, and delivering detailed presentations.
- Experience with gift planning software (Crescendo or PG Calc) is also preferable.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging with a diverse range of individuals, including donors, professional counsel, and charity staff.
- Familiarity with charitable giving strategies and the associated tax and estate implications is highly desirable
